Changed the shocks on the FXR to 13" Progressive 418's ( eBay $160.00 ) and love the ride now. I'll take a better ride over a cool look any day. The FXR handles better with the higher shocks and I don't get slammed as bad going over the pot holes.

Good advice here, thanks all! Definitely seems like a worthwhile upgrade. Though I may not be able to swing it at purchase, maybe something I'll have the money for next spring

I thought it would be a little more uncommon, but it seems like most of the upgraded shocks have extra length to them.

Hah, nice. I'm about his height so yeah that's pretty good. Thanks!

Default FXD Shocks

Cheapest option would probably be take-off FXD shocks off Ebay etc.(as new as possible).

hope you didn't pay $600 for those, I got a set of standard height shocks(54565-09) which measured out at 12.75" fully extended making them .75" longer than my 2010 FXDC shocks and they ride worlds better than stock, don't drag anything like the lowering china copies I used to have on there and only cost $71 on ebay......brand new take offs + about $50 for the lines but those come up ebay as well.

The lowering air shocks seem to go higher but the standard ones go dirt cheap because everyone's pulling them off........seems only Dyna and Sportster owners buy them

No I paid $40. They had zero miles. Buddy bought an Ultra and had them change out the suspension to the lower Street Glide suspension. He practically gave me these, and wouldn't accept any money so I picked up our tab at the bar for lunch that day.

I have the 010 lowered Dyna Super Glide. I am looking for someone with an 09 that wants to swap shocks so that they can lower theirs. I do not care for the lowered look. I am not the aggressive rider and I have already scraped the muffler. Hate it.

I will be raising mine. I'm waiting for some 13" Ricor shocks.

Kinda like when I got longer shocks when I had my nightster. You cant see the shocks in the pic but you can sure see the higher back fender. The ride sure was better after that.

I have a 2001 FXDL Dyna Low Rider; what length are the stock shocks? I want more suspension travel to smooth out the bumps, and what length/brand should I get?
