Before you get started on your tins, practice spraying on some scrap metal. Sanding off a bad paint job would be very time consuming and would s%#k after a while.
Check out some of the articles on how to paint from Car Craft same things apply only on a smaller scale. Make sure to get a decent gun, nothing cheap or you won't be happy with the results.

Post some pictures when you have them finished.
