I guess you always need to retorque bolts now and again. As I was pulling away my S&S mufflers slipped off, they got scratched but not dented. New ones are $325, but can they be rechromed at a local chrome plater? How much $$ should that be to have it done?

 

Most shops won't touch used exhaust systems, especially if there is any packing in them which can't be removed. The oily residue contamimates their tanks. If you can weight the exhaust parts so they sink in the tank, and effectively seal the ends (wood plugs with some silicone seal in the ends) you can probably talk them into it. If any of the corrosive liquid gets into the muffler, wash it forever in fresh warm water. Well, a long time. Install and drive right away to dry them out.

price would be about the smae to re chrome plus you are going to have to remove the guts completely... just the prep alone is a nightmare, i know how it is for us when we coat them... i shutter to think what a chromer would have to do in a dip tank!
