Default Got a problem...

Day before yesterday I washed my bike and although I cover the PC3 connected, this time I got water in it. The bike ran like crap when I started it and immediately I knew what the problem was. Opened up the connectors and sure enough, water...even though I do have dielectric grease in there but probably not enough. So I get the water out and leave the connectors apart to dry. Today I go out, it starts and runs fine. I go down the road and in fifth gear I pull in the clutch and release the throttle and the engine stays at the same rpm. I shut off the bike, restart it and all is fine. Get up to speed again, grab the clutch and release the throttle the engine rpm stays up again. I went home, took it all back apart and found no more water in the connectors. I put it all back together, connect the laptop to the pc3, reload the map, reset the throttle positions and go out again. Runs fine for awhile, then does it again! Any ideas what might be going on here? The throttle is returning to idle...I can hear the click as it closes. This happened once before when I got water in the PC3 but it returned to normal once I got it dried out.

I had the same problem after getting mine wet, very high idle.

Put the engine stop/run switch in the run position, turn the ignition switch on for 5 seconds, then off for 5 secondes - repeat 3 times.

That will reset the ecm.

Hmmm...I got it fixed. I ended up having to take the connectors back apart and clean all the old dielectric grease out, dry it all the way out and then put it back together. Works okay now. But, thanks for that info on the reset Joe, I did not know about that.

Glad you got it fixed.

They say the procedure resets the ecm. I actually believe it strokes the IAC (Idle Air Controller) open and closed through it's range and resets the calibration.

If it happens again, try the reset procedure - it won't hurt anything.
