Default Need new Front tire at 5,000 miles

I am at 5,000 miles on my FXDWG and I need a new front tire. The rear one still looks good. So should I replace them both or just replace the front? Buying the tire from the stores over here is out of the question. I bought 3x o-rings for the drain plugs, one oil filter, derby cover gasket, and K&N cleaner and recharge for a total of 70€ or at today's exchange rate $89!!!! Also do you know of a store that will ship tires overseas to a military APO?

OK no replys....

What are your thoughts on these tires:
Avon AV55 / AV56 Storm ST Sport / Sport Touring Radial Street Tires 170/60ZR-17 Rear
Avon AM41 / AM42 Venom Cruiser / Custom Street Tires 90/90-21 Front

and/or
Metzeler ME880 Marathon High-Milage Cruiser Street Tires 170/60R17 Rear Metzeler
ME880 Marathon High-Milage Cruiser Street Tires 90/90-21 Front

Also has anyone ever ordered from motorcycle.com?

Default Me880

Have around 750 miles on a new 17" rear, a lot of that on mountain roads, some dirt, mostly dry, some drizzle. Think it's a good choice. Very much livelier handling.

Nothing wrong with staying with the stock tires. I could go the cheap route and just replace the front with the stock tire as the rear is still good.

$89 sounds pretty good for what you bought.

oil filter = $13.95
O-rings = $1.50
Derby gasket = $7.00
K&N filter = $40.00
recharge kit = $30.00

now, why do you need a front tire @5000 miles?

The wear bars are now showing and tread is getting thin.... Notice how close when I did my 5000 miles service myself. Took awhile but I can say I did it myself.

I'd have to question how you could wear a tire in 5000 that usually does a minimum of ten K. I'm a very aggressive rider, lots of great country in this area to scrape the pegs, and my stock tire lasted into my third rear tire (17 K).

How many 32nds are left on the tread? What psi is in your tires?

36 is too high, 30 - 32 will get better handling and longer tread life. That tire is close but not worn out yet. I'd say if you drop your pressure at least 4 psi you could still run that tire a few thousand miles before you hit the wear bars as long as it's not cupping, which it probably is.

There are a lot of good tires out there. I ran the Avon Venom up front for my second tire but it doesn't look like I'll get as many miles out of it as I did the Dunlop stocker (17.5K), probably closer to 15K (@30K right now) looking to buy new Pirelli Night Dragon to match the rear around 32K.
