Default Dyna with a kicker

I have a 95 dyna lowrider that I put an aftermarket kickstarter on. Only problem is that with the stock ignition you really gotta kick er as it doesnt fire till the third compression (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, does anyone know if there is there a cheaper alternative than spending $250 for a new ignition module? If it was a chrome ***** I wouldn't have a prob spending that much, but it's a bobber/ratbike. Any help is appreciated.

Or maybe convert to a points system? Good or bad experiences?

Somewhere I remember reading the dyna Evo ignitions don't light up till they spin around once and alert the sensor. Don't know if that makes sense but it comes from guys who installed aftermarket ignitions like the Dyna2000 on their Shovels, and these systems mimic Evo's in how the activate. Hey, I may be wrong, but thats ringing a bell in my head. I know with the Dyna ignition on my '75 Shovel you had to kick it threw first before it would fire. I never heard of anything that wasn't that way but points. If I was you I might ask this question in the Evo section. Those guys might have better ideas than my fading memory. And I think if you tried to go cheap and install points, you would have to swap coils to a different ohm, so that would cost as much money as a module that doesn't need to be kicked threw. Just throwing out what my memory remembers of the top of my head.

Law, thank you for your input. I'll toss the q over in the evo section and see what i can get. And good call on the coil swap as well. I ran across a kit on ebay that has the whole deal along with the coil for $89. Any opinions? Worth the time and effort? Pros/cons of a points system vs. module?

Never had to do that on any of my bikes.. Once set up your good.. Every few miles? not even close..

I'd do the coils and points. You dont need a computer to see if something is wrong.. If your going old school go all the way.

Or you could run a Magneto...
