Need help!
Hi all,
I have an '07 Dyna Wide Glide and have an issue with my bike. Went on a beautiful 360 mile ride a couple of days ago out by Galena, IL. Bike ran great the whole trip (except) when I got off the highway going home I noticed a bad rattle under the bike on decel. Engine is fine, runs perfect, but every time say you are in third gear and you let off the throttle without pulling the clutch as the engine is winding down, a terrible rattle, but only on decel not accel. Checked the bike next day for anything loose, found nothing. Don't have a clue, maybe a motor mount, but then why a rattle only on decel? Any help would be appreciated!
Also, anyone out there know of any reputable shops that work on Harley's in the Northwest Chicago suburbs, or a good mechanic or tech that might work out of his garage? Don't want to bring my bike to the dealer (unless I have to). I did call one dealer and they told me that they were completely swamped with people's bike getting ready for Sturgis. Don't want my bike there for a three- week stay before they look at it! Thanks again!

Could be something as goofy as the rubber bumper on the under side frame for your jiffy stand went missing or decided it didn't like its location.
Easy to check, cheap to fix. Could be any number of guards or shields that decided to come loose for no reason.
Aside from putting it on a dyno and listenng/looking for it? Dunno. Maybe you could have somebody rev the motor and back off it while you lay under it and listen/look.
Good luck.

Had the same thing happen with the tank mounts. I only found that when I went to fix the front motor mount. So it could be both or either. I think the reason you hear it on decel is just the way the motor is stressed when you get off the throttle.
