Default 3.1 Hours labor to install Fwds on 06 Dyna - I feel robbed!

The stealer said on the 06 Dyna you have to take the Primary Cover off so it's 3.1 hours of labor for the final job (installing forward controls).

Also I got grips put on and they are charging me .9 of an hour so basically 1 full hour for that. To make it an even 4 hours of labor.

How much ROBBERY is this? I don't know much about the process of installing this stuff but I feel as though this is a bit high.

Buy the manuals, buy the tools and do it yourself.......

Real simple....

If you don't want to pay, then dont.....

Maybe you could find an Indy that will do it for a lot less.....

FWIW, Forward controls are a bit of a PITA, as the primary does have to be removed.....

I am going to pay the job is already done....

I have tools and the manual but I didn't feel I was capable of doing this job.

I just wanted to make sure that the primary had to be removed and that 3 hours was about right. If that's what it took to do the job then I have no problem paying. I just wanted to make sure this guy wasn't trying to hose me.

There is a bit more to the forward controls as they do have to reroute linkage to run behind and above primary..
change the grips yourself.. no big job really!!!

I hope you got kissed or at least taken out to dinner!!! Do it yourself, it took 15 minutes to do new cushion handgrips on my bike, oh, and a beer! You don't have to do the primary cover, you just have to find a chrome cover to go over the shifter extension that pokes through, that is if you want to save some bug bucks. You can also put those on yourself.

I had my forwards ('06 Low Rider) installed by an indy.

He charged 2 hrs labor, and according to him, he didn't remove the primary. He put a "cap" over where the original shifter was attached.

Had a dealer price the job and he quoted over 3 hrs labor.

My dealer installed new grips at the same time the injectors were changed. The Work Order said 3/4 hour for the grips, and the Service Manager billed me for 1/2 hour.

I'm not mechanically inclined, so I was OK with having the "pros" do the work.

Thanks Sammi, I feel better now... at least I am not totally getting robbed, 3.1 hours seems about right.

the .9 for the grips is a hose job but whatever, it's done.

I've found an indy in town who does great work for less hours, lower hourly rate, and cheaper priced HD parts.

Makes all the difference in the world.

I use the dealer only for the bike's first service (this Thursday) and warranty work.

The dealer will charge you the number of ours the MOCO tells them they can I have a doc somewhere that lists all the hour codes for the 06 models.
The forward controls requires the entire primary outer & inner including the clutch and compensator be removed to do the install of the 06 and later kit.
I did the job myself and it took me 4.5 hours. And .9 hours for both grips total is not that bad there are the cables to connect and make sure they are adjusted right.
Other than the high price most dealers charge for labor the hours are right in line with the work performed.

I did my own grips recently... it does take a little time to carefully remove switch housings, to attach the cables without loosing the ferules, and to adjust the cables afterwards. If they did it properly, .9 hours is probably not that far off the mark. However, dealers probably can do it faster than me once they've done a few hundred :-)
