Default Do 2 to 1 pipes perform better than 2 to 2?

New to the forum and bought a 2010 Fat Bob. I plan on buying the V&H Big Radius and am torn between the 2 to 1 and 2 to 2. If the performance is better on the one I will go that route, otherwise I will stick with the 2 to 2 since it is a bit cheaper. I didn't see a post asking this question so please let me know if I overlooked it. Thanks.

Generally speaking, yes 2-1 will provide a gain over 2-2 all other things being equal.

HD bike exhaust systems are so short that they are all bad systems. The difference between the 2-2 and 2-1 V&H may not be all that noticeable by the seat of your pants. You may want to go with the one you feel better about riding, unless you race a bit.

On the street, a decent 2 into 1will perform better than a 2 into 2. a 2-1 will provide more low rpm torque while 2-2 more high rpm horsepower. So if you want to show off your dyno HP numbers at the corner bar, go with the 2-2. The 2-1 will give you a more satisfying street ride.

I think there may be better performing 2-1 exhaust systems than the V&H, LR comes to mind, perhaps thunder header.

Thanks guys. I would be more of a lower end power guy, so leaning toward the 2 to 1.

If you like the look, you'll be happier with a good 2-1, especially if you do more motor work down the road.

Look into the D&D Fat Cat. It is a great pipe; performance, quality and sound.

IMHO 2 into 1's perform a little better, 2 into 2's sound better. But thats just me.

2-1 easier to dyna-tune for a bit more power. However, my service tech claims that a 2-1 can have a flat spot around 5,000 rpm. A properly tuned 2-2 won't have this. His words, not mine.

Agree with most if the above except I also prefer the sound of a 2-1 over a 2-2. I get lots of complements on my D&D and put a V&H 2-1 on my buddies rocker and it sounds great also.
