The wife and I both had Nightsters and she had the V&H short shots 2 to 2 and I had SuperTrapp SuperMeg 2 to 1 . We both had the same highflow air cleaner and besides that bone stock. We got them tuned on the same dyno by the same operator. Short Shots made 66hp and 71ft lbs. The Supermeg made 80hp and 80ft lbs. We are running Smartpartz Hard Core Quiet Baffles in the short shots so we lost a few HP but still..

I do agree the 2 to 2 do sound better but 2 to 1 performance rocks.

You have to be a tad careful about just what a 2-2 system exactly is. Quite a few have some sort of crossover pipe connecting the two mufflers. This makes the two mufflers available to both exhaust ports. So a system can look like a 2-2 but perform closer to a 2-1. True 2-2 with a single pipe for each cylinder tend to have small muffler volumes and perform less well than cross-over 2-2s and 2-1s with a big can.

I prefer 2-1 as I believe they perform better.

I had the Pro-Pipe HS (now known as the pro-pipe bp) on my 2002 Night train.

Now I have the Pro-Pipe Chrome on my FXD. The Chrome is stepped once and sounds a lot better than my old pro-pipe HS, much more rumble and deep sound as opposed to a more tinny sound in the HS.

I have also gotten used to the looks of the staged but to each is own.

Also, a longer 2 into 1 will give more power than a shorter one like the BR 2 into 1. I run a fatcat and it kicks serious butt. If you need discoutned forum pricing on exhausts, PM or email me at DREW@DRVTWIN.com

So do you get the best of both worlds with a 2-1-2 exhaust or is that basically considered a 2-1?

Just from a casual first glance, it seems to be a Channel Pipe system where the two pipes are welded together with a baffle in between them. This type of setup allows mismatched sonic and thermal pulses to crossover into the 'idle' side. When one piston is evacuating exhaust, the other side is not.

Relatively new concept if that's what they're using. Not sure.

A 2 into 2 with a crossover chamber is not considered a 2 into 1 into 2. It is considered to be better than a true duel set-up but doesn't compete directly with 2 into 1 exhaust systems. Look at Vance and Hines big shots staggered opposed to the pro-pipe and you will see the difference between just having a crossover chamber and having a true 2 into one exhaust.

??? My logic tells me if the engine is running more efficiently than it would run cooler... so I would guess no, but who knows... I think running hot is more a function of how close the tune is to running perfect as opposed to which type of exhaust is on it.
