Default Exhaust Wrap on '09 Street Bob Pipes

Figured I would post a few pics for anyone considering doing this. Cheap and relatively easy mod. Got the wrap off eBay and used the high temp black paint as well. Heat shields were removed.

Looks badass on my old bike...

You really need to even out the spacing of the wraps... cover the clamps... and cover the muffler clamps imo...

Well I really wasnt going for perfection when I wrapped the pipes. It's not supposed to be pretty but the spacing is mostly uniform...can't really tell with the wrap painted though. And wrapping the clamps would be far more trouble than the end result would be worth IMO. Again not supposed to be pretty.

Love it! I may end up doing the same to my Bobber.

Second, it weighs less than the heat shields. Third, it quiets the exhaust somewhat, and reduces exhaust rattle. Fourth, it increases exhaust velocity, thus scavenging better and improving volumetric efficiency, which in turn helps the engine perform better. Finally, it looks cool.

Ok, I have to ask a stupid question: heat shields are what exactly? They cover up the exhaust I take it?

So removing them and applying heat wrap is much better, for the reasons tekdiver explained. Am I right?

This sounds like an inexpensive way to keep your legs from burning up. I might just do this!

Exactly. The heat shields are the metal covers you see covering the outer half of the headers. Their purpose is to help prevent burns to the rider's legs, and to stay shiny.
