Default Should I Dyno Tune?

I just got back from the local stealer, I mean dealer & we were shooting the breeze about my bike. I just added Vance & Hines Short Shots & a K&N Filter. They told me since I added that, I need to add a power commander and have it Dyno tuned. They said I may be loosing up to 8 mpg now but I have been on 2 long rides since installing all of this & haven't noticed much difference in gas comsumption. They told me to add the power commander & dyno tune, it was gonna cost me around $700. I said *uck that!! Should I do it or not?

Depends on the model and year. The traditional answer is yes, you need to retune after swapping out both A/C & pipes because you have increased the flow of air but not of fuel and risk running engine-damagingly weak. However late model dynas (last 2-3 years) with the newer EFI systems are much more self-adjusting and can, according to the dealers here, cope even with changes to the exhaust and A/C.

The jury is still out on that one and most people still seem to do something to the mix for a stage-1. It will certainly run cooler and with more power if you do but that's true even if you have the stock hardware.

A quick fix would be to fit Xieds, which at $100 is a much cheaper solution.

Hi Foxster. I suspect by 'here' you mean the UK! Put some location details in your 'about me' old chap.

I agree that making changes to a recent Harley really should be done with a dyno tune, to ensure it is correctly tuned. The cost of something going wrong because the bike is running way too lean could be far more than 700 bucks.

if they remapped your bike on the install of the stuff no, IMO you only dyno if you do motor mods! but others say the other way about it. to me, all BS, i have never seen a bike with a intake and exhaust wiht a basic tuner (SERT, power comander, etc) that dyno sheet was through the roof after they dyno'd it.

If you like the way the bike runs, even the heat, then no don't do it. If you are concerned, or want to get the most out of that bike, buy yourself a TTS tuning kit for about $400 and set the bike up yourself. Cut your strings from those stealers...

If you spent that cash on the K&N for performance, you are short sheeting yourself without also a tune. If it was for posing, have fun... just ride... and there is nothing wrong with that.... even though some will say the sky is falling You will find a lot of opinions here.

The bike is a 2010 model. I was told by the shop where I bought them that the O2 sensors would take care of all of that. The shop I bought the pipes & filter from is not a Harley shop but they are Harley certified Techs and spealize in Harleys. The dick at the stealer told me and I quote: "The O2 Sensors are supposed to do that but the jury is still out" and then he giggled a little bit. Then to make matters worse, I asked if they had a Tallboy seat in stock. They said yes but it's a defect & I asked how much they wanted. They said we'll knock off 25% and give it to me for $210. I said damn, I can get a brand new, non defect from the other Harley shop across town for $233.94. They said, Oh well. What a ********!!

The Delphi computer and the O2 sensors can handle a lot more than people give them credit for. With the mods you have, I wouldnt waste my money on a tuner or a Dyno. Unless a tenth of a HP or Ft/Lb of torque really makes that much of a difference to you.
