Default TC88 Cam Chain Tensioner Inspection....just in time!!

Got 35.700 miles on my 2003 FXD and had the cam chain tensioners inspected and replaced.

IMO just in time............

Both show signs of wear; the secondary (inner) tensioner even lost a piece and got "eating" marks on the metal (see arrow) already.

Had them replaced by my indy as well as the bearings.

Morning. Yo to the Nederlands. If you happen to be by Oldtimers, say hi to Eppie for me. Did you use stock replacement tensioners or is there a better product out there?

My indy used 39964-99A and 39954-99A H-D tensioners. Not sure if there are any other brands over here....

Where's Oldtimers and who's Eppie?

Yep, must have been my lucky week, I guess

Wondering at how many miles other TC88 owners had to replace the cam chain tensioners and how they looked like when they came off....

My neighbor just had his changed out on his 07 ultra glide and they looked worse than yours. He went with gear driven cams to get rid of all that. What bearings did you have changed? Thanks for the good pics. Stay safe.

Good catch but most people now recommend inspection at 25-30,000 miles. Some guys cut open every other oil filter to look for orange "bits" in the pleats.

Indy replaced front (ball) and rear camshaft (roller) bearings. The the inner cam bearing has been replaced by a JIMS 9198k needle bearing.
