I installed my new shocks last night (no pictures yet) and my rides rougher than the stock. I dropped it an inch and it made a difference. Dialed them into the highest setting. Is this normal; something I have to get use to?

 

uhh ya - its normal. The progressive is a firmer shock with less travel than the stock ones. You might try dialing it down some though; no real need to have em cranked all the way up.

 

Are they stiffer? Are they the stock length? Are you bottoming out? Did you get the heavy duty springs?

 

Let me first reply that this is not my first rodeo but, it is my first set of Progressives. They are not heavy duty; they are 11" vs. the stock 12", and I was bottomng out. I corrected the bottomng-out. They came in the lightest setting and I moved it two notches. This is how I rode it into work and I was nearly thrown off on a sharp bump. I came home and cranked it to the highest setting and it rode better but was rougher than the stock shocks. I'll try putting it down two notches (it only has 5 adjustments) and try it there. Just in-case there is a smart-*** out there, I'll try and avoid sharp bumps also.

 

I'm actually wanting others with same type. Their weight and settings so I can compare. I weight 170lbs.

Well, not to be a smartass, but.... You lost an inch of travel on something that only had about 3 inches to start with, what did you think would happen?
I have 412 HD shocks, but stayed with the stock height, my 200 lbs enjoy the ride, and even 2up with the additional 135 lbs it rides fine, even fully loaded on the top setting..

 

Everyone is stating the obvious. I knew exactly what I was buying but I've never owned a set. I am mechanically inclined. I'm perfectly capable in riding, adjusting and riding and adjusting. I was lookng for comparisons to keep from having to ride, adjust and ride and adjust.

 

I have 11" 412s, I'm about 160 and I have them on the middle setting but I've been considering stiffining them up one notch. Yes, it rides rougher than stock but I knew that before I got them. I was unpleasantly surprised the first time I hit a large bump and like you almost got thrown off... But I got them for the look (black and lower) and because they were relatively cheap. It was a sacrifice I was willing to make.
