Default Is Dyna a better ride than the Softail?

I posted this same question on the Softail forum but I thought I might get a different perspective here. I mentioned in another post on the Softail forum that I'm looking at buying an '07 Softail but also looking at the Dynas as well. The dealer mentioned that he felt that the Dyna would give an overall smoother ride than the softail and would corner better also. (By the way I did find out later that he rode a Dyna). I'm going to rent a Wide Glide next week to see for myself but I was curious about any other opinions.

Yep, rubber mounted motor and rear suspension with much more travel.

I have an FXR, and it is the smoothest HD ride there is.

my buddy has an 06 Night Train and I have an 00 Dyna Sport
ive ridden both and we often swap bikes
the RIDE itself is smoother and more plush on the NT, no question about it
if you push the NT though into corners...it doesnt hold a line well and tends to squat
my dyna out handles it hands down but the suspension is tighter, harder and the rubber mounted engine vibrates so its no where NEAR as smooth as the 88B.

Just my opinion...if you are looking for a smoother plush ride go with the soft tail
if you want a better handling bike, the dyna wins over the soft tail

If you're interested in the handling characteristics of the dynas, the wide glide is the last bike you should rent. The DWG is the black sheep of the dyna line...it has a more raked front end and mini apes which will definitely affect handling. To get a good idea for comparison between handling of dynas vs. softails, any other dyna would be a better bike to ride. Now if you want a bike that blows them all away when it comes to looks and attitude, then you might as well lay down the cash right now for the Wide Glide

Rubber mounted motors actually vibrate more at idle, but as soon as you twist the throttle they smooth right out. I have ridden my '06 Bob and my buds '06 Nightrain, and no question the dyna handles better. After idle, there wasn't a big difference in the ride that I could tell. I guess it all comes down to personal preference. Dynas with exposed suspension, Softies without, etc. As mentioned before if you want the true Dyna feel, don't test ride a Wideglide (at least for handling). The WG will handle more like a Softail than a Dyna.

I've had both and I'm leaning (pun intended) toward the Dyna.

Softail forum = softail is best

Dyna forum = dyna is best

Sportster forum = Well neither the softail or dyna cuz sportster is best

Metric forum = Wish we had a Harley so, Harleys suck

Ive found strong points in my dads '05 WG and my '05 Springer not one thing though that really beats out the other. Wish I could have 10 bikes.........
