I am a novice mechanic and after talking to the parts department at Harley they said its pretty simple install. I was wondering if there is anything I should watch for that the instructions wont cover, as well as what is the best way to drain and fill the primary?

 

if you just leave the shifter shaft in the primary and put a chrome cover over the shaft where it comes out for the mid controls its less than an hour job to change over. If you want to drain the primary there is a drain plug on the under side of the primary just under neath the large round primary cover drain from there then remove the round cover to refill.

As for the forwards they are pretty simple only thing you may need to do is run a tap thru the threads where the forwards will mount if your bike is an 05 and has never had any thing threaded in the holes out front they may be little dirty and need cleaned out other than that its not a bad job.

+1 on ohioskully's advice. I installed them on my 05fdxci within an hour. I left the shifter-shaft in the primary and covered it with the chrome cover that came with the fwd controls.
