Default Looking for those of you that have shopped for and installed Apes.

OK I have pretty much decided to install Apes on my 2010 Wide Glide. Went to my Harley dealer today and sat on a Street Bob and found the Apes to be to short,my arms were straight. They had a Fat Boy with 16 inch Apes that surprised me and felt pretty good.My hands were a little higher than what I had in mind but still felt good. My original thought was 14 inch Apes. I forgot to mention I'm 5'7 with 34 inch sleeve length.I was looking at a place called Hill County Custom Cycles that offers Apes prewired with the correct cables the correct length and everything you need. Wiring harness uses factory wire colors and factory wire pins. The price for 14 inch is $429.00 with probably about two week delivery. I am leaving on a big trip in 3 weeks and would like to change bars ASAP. Harley offers 16 inch Apes and Risers that list for $319.00. I have no idea what cables and wiring harness cost going through Harley. I would appreciate hearing from those of you that have already been through this.I forgot to mention a buddy of mine and I will be doing the install. Thank you very much.

harley's kit is actually 12 or 13 inch apes with risers totaling 16 total inches above the triple tree.

i went with 14" carlinis on 2" risers and with a low solo seat my hands are right above my shoulders.

i'm 5'10" on a good day with a 35 inch sleeve length.

here's a profile of the bike...

and here's me on it...

hope this helps ya

Hill Country Custom Cycles has a nice product. I've used them twice now.

I purchased the 16" 1 1/4" complete chrome package from Hill Country Custom Cycles and could not be happier. I have them mounted on 1 1/2" risers and I am 5'7". Just make sure they send you the right pins for the wires. They sent me the female pins and I needed the male pins so instead of waiting on the right ones I just cut the plugs off of the stock wires and soldered them to the new wires.

I have a set of 16" Apes with 1" stock style risers. I am 6' and the bars are just about shoulder height on me, maybe just a bit higher, but dam they are the most comfortable bars I have tried. I have tried 4 types, from drag, to avg. to reduced reach to now these and I am not changing. I ordered cables at +6" over stock along with a longer wiring extension. Worked out great. I wish you good luck.

Bars from Krome works, 3/4" offset riser from custom chrome, 10" over stock cables from barnett, wiring is stock, no alterations, no extensions. Cost was about $300 total. Only drag was it took three weeks to get the cables...

I went with the street bob bars. They seemed a little low until I rolled them forward a little bit and they are really comfortable for me.
