Okay, I know - I know, sometimes you have to sacrifice form for function but I absolutely hated my 2-up setup from the moment I first put a Sundowner on my bike and later traded it for a Tallboy seat. I didn't like the look but I also felt like I was giving up something up front as well, everytime she wanted to ride with me. Because of the seat being so thick and wide compared to my barebones and, later, Mustang Tripper, the whole bike felt different to me when I'd get on it with the 2-up setup (Tallboy + detachable sissy bar). For the first time since buying that Sundowner, I own only 1 seat and a detachable, matching pillion. Now, when she wants to ride, I throw on the pillion in about a minute and snap on the sissy bar in about 15 seconds and, besides having her on the back, I don't notice much difference in the way the bike feels and handles vs. my solo setup. And I think it looks much better as well. I still take it off as soon as she gets off, but this I can live with.

I really dont think a bike looks "bad" in 2-up config. I was doing the 1-up - 2-up switch, and I got tired of going back and forth. My wife rides with me all the time, except when I go to work....so I just said screw it and put a permanent Mustang Wide Vintage on. She loves it, and can hang with me all day, and I dont have to keep multiple seats in the garage.

My wife rides once in a blue moon and typically not very long or far. She really liked the bigger seat better but it was overkill for what we used it for. This setup is still a lot better than the stocker and she is willing to give up a little width and padding in order for me to be a little more comfortable and confident up front.
