Default Thinking of adding progressive shocks but have questions

I have toyed with the idea of replacing the front and rear shocks on my bike with progressives. From their website it would appear that 12" rears are the standard OEM size on the Low Rider. I want some opinions on the 412 vs. 418 vs. 440. I don't know if anyone has experience with all 3 or not, but the progressvie website doesn't do a good job of explaining the difference. There is a huge difference in price and it seems like the 412's are much better than stock and would do a good job. I also plan to replace the springs in the front as well.

I've used the 412's on two bikes. For the money, it's an excellent rear shock. Much smoother and more comfortable, especially when loaded.

As for the front, progressive rate springs are kind of a guessing game. My advice is to use a Caddies suspension kit from Race Tech. The Gold Valves and new springs will make a world of differance.

Don't quote me but I believe the 440's are self adjusting. Kind of like the Edelbrock IAS shocks for your car or truck. The 412's & 418's are manual adjust like the ones on your stock bike. Irregardless, I have the same question as you. Which one & why?

Hi Dynamite...

Sorry, I can't help you on the shocks issue. But I am interested in the answer as I have been pondering the same question.

Also, I am interested in your pipes. They look sharp and I think they would look great on my Bob ceramic coated black with chrome tips on them. Those are Reinharts, right? Are they real loud?

Thanks,

dirty

Progressive's web site is very informative.
I have used both and I prefer the 440's...............BUT i an 250 lbs. and ride hard(lots of twistys)

I do like the adjustment process on the 440's very much....no wrench or tools needed...and infinatly ajdustable

I did NOT like the progressive front fork springs.....way too stiff
start with HD screamin eagle fork oil...if that doesn't do it for you the look at the gols valving

Yes they are Rineharts and it depends on what you think is loud. Personally, I think they are loud, but I had S/E before. They are really loud when you put a load on the motor such as going uphill.

Thanks for the info Patch.

Thanks, Dynamite.

Do you think they're louder than Cycle Shack slip-ons...if you could use those as a comparison.

I've never heard the cycle shacks so it would be hard to say. They are slightly louder than V&H I would say. I know that's not what you asked for, but most people have those so it would be a good indicator that you could easily listen to.

Doesnt really matter which ones you pick cuz they look sick.
I got the 412's and they work fine. Check out the pic.
