Question Remove ROAD TAR from exhaust?

Anybody have any pointers? The guy I got my bike from got tar on the pipe at some point. Have used GooGone - no luck. Short of using a razor blade I have no ideas. Would really prefer not to scratch the chrome. There's bound to be an easier way.

Try "Shout" stain remover with toothbrush, also WD40 might work. Bug/Tar remover use for car paint, any of these should work, let it soak.

gasoline on a rag.

I have used "easy off" oven cleaner. Run the bike for a bit to get the pipes hot but not super hot, spray on, wait about 30 sec, wipes right off.

A plastic shopping bag blew into my exhaust a few weeks ago. Thought I would never be able to get it off, a buddy told me about this. It works great.

#1 Spray Wd-40 onto cool pipes, let sit for awhile, elbow grease.
#2 Nail polish remover, let sit for awhile, elbow grease.

For tar and gunk I use break cleaner but like posted above oven cleaner will work too.

I wish we had enough hot weather in the UK for the roads to get sticky enough to have this problem.

A nickel works great. It doesn't scratch the chrome. It's made with the same material. Melted plastic on my pipes. Used a nickel to remove it. You won't believe to results.

Use gasoline on a rag. And then once the tar is off and nothing left but haze, finish polishing back to a shine with Never Dull. It will be good as new - IF you are patient and take the tar off a little at a time depending on just how thick the stuff is.
