My son owns a deteil shop and he uses Mayonaise.
Wipe it on, after a few minutes wipe it off.

Thanks for the constructive replies. I appreciate the input. Oven cleaner seems like the best bet for this problem, but it's good to kno that superfine steel wool won't ruin my chrome finish. I'll post before and after pics this weekend.

Agree with the gasoline. No elbow grease needed. May have to try the mayonnaise next time. Does it have to be real mayonnaise or will miracle whip work?

Mayonnaise.... kinda funny and if it works great... I can see it now... replace all your detail products with pledge and mayonnaise...gotta wonder who would ever think to try it to clean off road tar....very creative...I had someone tell me to try cascade on my tub, I did, it turns out that is stuff cleans a tub/tile better than anything I had ever used before...still use it to this day for the bathroom.

+1 on the Mr. Clean magic eraser. Works great on boot burn, etc.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies and to the OP for posting the question! Got some plastic melted from my rain pants... I'm going to try the magic eraser first, then oven cleaner.

Just watch you don't get oven cleaner on the wrinkle paint it will leave an ugly white mark. I think nail polish remover (which is acetone) will work as well. And I did leave scratches on my chrome with ultra fine 0000 steel wool while the pipes were hot so be careful with that **** (stuff) too!
