The Virago XV700 was my first, and I loved it. Loved it, but on long trips I was over the ride in an hour. I went to buy a sportster, and edned up buying a Dyna Street Bob. I don't think I would have liked the Street Bob for my first bike. When I rode the Dyna and the 96" motor, I could definitely tell I would have been outta my comfort zone of power if I had not riding the Virago for a long time. Actually I was a little intimidated by the power of the Dyna having ridden the Virago for so long. So I don't know if that helps or not.

Thanks for all your feedback, I will go infor the Dyna, its a Super Glide Custom, so I cant go wrong. As soon as I get it I will let you know and post some pics. I do have another question but will post another thread to get some reviews

It's what I got and I've always judged a person's intelligence by how much they agree with me.

 

Get what fits you best but don't sell the sporty short. Been my choice for over 4 decades even with a FXSB sitting right next to it. They're both awesome.

 

Sportster is 100lbs less and if you increase shock travel and fork travel and do engine work it’s pretty fun I used to go wot on my sportster all the time do errands go everywhere with it rain or shine.

I don’t know why but anything above 100mph on my dyna feels sketchy as ****. Both a great though the dyna was much more fun to customize. And the little cracks on the highway don’t feel scary like they did with the sportster

 

I actually like the Sportster 1200's. I guess that they made a low model so that would be good for a person with a shorter stature. There are some mechanical issues that may be of interest. As many will recall in 2004 Sportsters got a rubber-mounted engine and that helped to smooth out the high vibration that the earlier ones had. We had a new 1995 883 Sportster which was OK up to 3,000 rpm and after that the vibration was monumental.
Also, in 2004, HD changed the transmission to remove the trapdoor which permitted removal of the transmission inner parts without splitting the engine cases. The trapdoor first appeared with the '54 KHK (55 cu. inch flathead) The transmissions are really quite good and reliable, yet if you ever have a problem on the 2004 and later Sportster, the engine has to come out.
Hard to say what's best, Sportster or Dyna. I like them both but the Dyna is more my style.
