Default New Air Cleaner Cover for '06

I got bored today, and decided to play around with the air cleaner. I have a SE air cleaner kit off a '97 WG that's been in my basement for years. My new '06 Dyna also has the SE air cleaner kit. So I decided to to see if they would cross fit. Here's what I found out:

Element: The mounting bolts are in differant locations. Not a big deal, just mark and drill. The diameter is about the same. The new filter is sort of cone shaped, and the old one is not. But the height is considerably shorter. You could use it, but it appears that the filter surface area is smaller on the old one. Probably not a big deal on a close to stock 88" machine.

Backing plates. Differant, but could be made to work. And would have the advantage of spewing oil on the road instead of into the throttle body.

Cover. That's an easy swap. Simply unbolt the football and bolt on the round cover. There's plenty of room for air flow. Not sure I like the look yet. I might try a differant trim ring. I also might try some translucent powdercoating like on the battery cover.

I havn't been to a HOG mtg in years.

Here's my future plan (after some other suggestions). I'm going to powdercoat the round cover with translucent red, like the battery cover. Use the black on silver SE trim ring. Then replace the battery cover trim with black on silver H-D trim piece.

These parts are cheap, and I can actually get them for free with the Chrome Cash from H-D credit card.
