Default First one day 500 mile ride on my 2010 Wide Glide

Thought I would share my thoughts after a 500 mile ride today. Forgot to mention my Mustang Vintage solo was great. I found the 2 Orange Harley mini boards to work much better than the stock pegs. We covered some wide open country with an average speed most of the time of 75. I found myself sometimes creeping up to 80 or 85 because the 6th gear just wanted to unwind. The bike rode well and I was using my HD quick detach low profile shield which worked fairly well.My only complaint was my lower back began to hurt as the day went on.When riding on short rides I feel like I lean slightly forward which hasn't been a problem. On an all day ride I began to feel the stress in my lower back. I think I will probably have to try the 2 inch spacers that some are using with the stock risers. I know there is a forum member using some chrome 8 inch risers that might be another option. I know some like apes better than drag bars and I would like to try them but I can't spend that kind of money right now. That about sums up the ride, all and all I was pretty pleased with the new Wide Glide.

Sounds like you had a great time. My butt and back start aching after about 120 miles. 4 inch pullback risers and forward controls helped, but I guess my next major purchase will probably be a Mustang seat. Thought about those boards. Maybe I'll take a second look at them. My bike is lowered 2 inches all around, and I was worried about dragging them. Congrats on the Wide Glide! They are beautiful bikes-always have been!

I had similar results with my trip to Laughlin. I am looking at a sundowner seat in addition to 4 1/2 inch risers with 1 1/2 inch pull back to see if this helps. I really prefer a nice set of apes, but due to the cost, I am holding off on them for now.

Took a 4hr ride yesterday with a stock seat and had no problems. Except for the pollen and I got a little sunburned. Gotta love that 6th gear!

Sounds like a good time.

A seat with a backrest helps a ton. I bought mine after my first 2 day 800 mile trip on a Lepera BB. The last couple hundred miles my back was killing me and I knew I needed a different seat. Bought a C&C Fastback with drivers backrest and did a 1300 mile 3 day trip and my back never gave me a issue.

Having the backrest keeps my posture better while riding.

500 Miles is a good ride, I still need to get a better seat too.

I checked out how the mini apes felt first, by buying streetbob take-off stuff from other forum members. Got a complete setup (bars/cables/brakeline) for under 140 bucks. Rode with them for about 3000 miles, knew I liked that setup... then dropped coin on my fat minis, chrome controls, grips, Barnett cables and diamondback brake lines. Then sold the streetbob stuff off. So really the 140 resulted in a much lower cost than that.

The bar setup, coupled with the Mustang wide vintage solo, forward controls and Kuryakyn Swingwing pegs... make for very comfortable long distance riding.
