Mistaken for a Sporty?

RE: why do people keep asking if my bike is a sportster?
When I first brought our new 07 FXD home and parked it beside our also Vivid Black 04 883C my kids and even my wife said they looked a lot alike. The kids even asked why I got another bike like the old Sporty. That first day they even looked similar to me.
Then one by one the wife and kids each got to hop on back when I got the Sundowner seat and low bar with pad on it. Now they know the difference well. They tell me there is all the difference in the world. Like not having to upshift once or twice on hills. Like being able to go over bumps and actually have the suspension work pretty well.
I do love the old Sporty. If not for having family that likes to ride two up I would never have gotten the FXD.
Boy would I have missed out. . . This Superglide has to be the ultimate magic carpet ride.

RE: why do people keep asking if my bike is a sportster?
Heard some guy getting the same static this weekend at the Harley Shop. He finally said what the **** its a Dyna. The crazy things is the guy was 6' 7" so he made the bike look really small. We're not really sure why he didn't get a cruising model base on his size but his personal preference was def. a Dyna.
Nice Bike....

RE: why do people keep asking if my bike is a sportster?
I keep telling people how close the Sportsters and Dyna are. I have one of each. The gas tank is wider on the Dynas and they have oval air cleaner rather then the "ham can" the sportsters have. They are hard to tell apart other then that. I think alot of people view the dynas a bigger because the tank is wider. The Dynas also seem to sooth peoples egos as well if you are sensitive to that.

How much advertising does HD put forth (to the general public) on the DynaGlide line of bikes? The majority of the people can readily identify the baggers as Harley Davidson’s and the Sportsters have been here for quite a while so they, or at least the name, are widely known. So if it isn’t a bagger then it must be a Sportster, right? Crap come HD owners will even misidentify a Dyna.

Kinda similar to this:
I was in a local watering hole last night talking to a regular who is a biker. He owns a beautiful 87 softy.
A first timer in the bar comes up to him and asks the regular if his bike is a Softtail. When the regular replied "Yes", the new guy began going off about how he loved Softtails and how they were his favorite motorcycles.
If this dumbass loves Softtails so much, why'd he have to ask if the regular's bike was a softtail?[sm=dontgetit.gif]
