I have a 2006 Sportster 883L Trike. My husband wants to convert it to a big boy bike by replacing the front end with a wide glide front end. Would that handle okay, better or not at all.
Welcome to the boards. See it's your first post. Maybe try posting your Sporty question here....
To answer your immediate question, width doesn't affect things as much as rake and trail. If you just change to a wide glide trees with no additional rake, you'll see virtually no difference in handling. Maybe a slightly slower turn in.
Stopped at an off brand biker shop one day while riding my first Street Bob. A guy asked me (saw him pull in in front of me on a Low Rider), "is that a Suzuki?"
I said, "yeah, it's Jap crap just like the Vulcan you rolled in on."
Shut him up.
Hey, lots of folks don't know much about bikes, but think Harleys (or look-alikes) are cool, and are just trying to be friendly, complimentary, and make conversation. No reason to be to hard on 'em.
Most people that only have a shallow knowledge of Harleys ask if mine is a Sportster. I figure it's just the easiest name to remember. I just thank them and say its a dyna wide glide. Most just glaze over. A few ask some followup questions. At least nobody has ever asked if it's a shadow.
