Just goes to show that having a HD sticker on your vehicle doesn't mean you know much about the bikes.

Yup, had a guy on a softail tell me he liked my sporty. I told him he hurt my street bob's feelings calling it a sporty. Nothing against sporty's, I loved mine.

had a guy going door to door trying to sell who knows what. My garage was open and he says "nice sportster, my buddy has one. Everyone calls them girls bikes but they look pretty cool". I just said yea thanks I'm not interested.

I had an older guy ask me if mine was a softail, I said no it's a dyna fat bob. Then he said he had a 91 lowrider. I said "That's cool I love dynas" and he looked at me like I had 2 heads.

Was that sarcasm or didn't you know Dynas weren't made until 1994? The lowrider started years before that.
People see the rear shocks and assume we have sportys. If you know the slightest bit about Harley's you can spot the differences in half a second. Different frame, gas tank, engines, drive-side, battery box etc, etc, etc

I just tell people I ain't a bagger guy...

The funniest time was a guy who pulled up next to me at a stoplight - on a freaking Sportster!!

He excitedly asked me "is that the new Nightster?"

I said, no, it's a Super Glide. He did a double take and then looked embarrassed...

I guess he doesn't spend as much time as I do, out in the garage staring at my bike.

Usually if anyone comments on my bike they will ask what type of Harley it is or how big is the engine or just "hey thats a nice lookin bike". In your case if the driver stops on your left just point to the clutch and chain case and if he stops on your right just point to the battery cover, that should clear it up.
