Mistaken for a Sporty?

RE: Is that a Sportster?
Oooooor, you could say to them, "Why don't you go outside and play a game of hide and go **** yourself?"... No, some people just don't know the difference. Before I started looking into HD's, anddeciding on mine(not that long ago), I wouldn't have been able to tell you the difference either. Oh well. Guess I just don't care to much. That one about the guy riding the Sporty was pretty funny though...

RE: Is that a Sportster?
My Dyna IS my Sportster.............. It's also my RoadKing
Usually, when folks ask me if my SuperGlide is a Sportster, it leads to a rather long conversation about all the Harley line of bikes, and I almost always get the feeling they are heading to the HD showroom to pick out the one they want.
I understand not knowing about diferent bikes. I do the same thing with folks on sport bikes..... I don't know what the hecktheir bike is, so I ask, which again, leads to a rather lengthly conversation about the Harley line of bikes.Just can't help it.

For me, compared to my '93 Sportster:
1. room
2. suspension
3. stiffness in the frame - better able to handle my lard ****.
4. 6 speed - I do a LOT of highway riding
Similar if not the same nimble handling (I do not profess to be a pro and probably all bikes can handle more than I can ride).
Anyone asking what the differences are has not ridden a Dyna...IMHO

So, how much more is there? Besides $3,000 extra?[sm=kissykissy.gif][sm=Awwww.gif]

I had a guy tell me a Dyna is nothing but a sportster on steroids! I had to educate him on how much more there is!!!

RE: Is that a Sportster?
I haven't ever gotten that question, but I imagine if I did I would have something witty and smart to reply with. If you were to put a Sporty side by side, most people would quickly see there isn't much in common. When I talk with people and mention I have a HD, I have found that more people know whata Low Rider is than a Dyna. Go figure.

RE: Is that a Sportster?
I was riding my red 1970 BSA Thunderbolt (a 650 twin) last year and a bloke came up to me and said "Wow, great BSA. I used to own one exactly the same" He then said "The one I had was a Norton, it only had one cylinder and it was silver".
I was getting onto my Fat Bob outside a cafe a few weeks ago and a very attractive and well dressed middle aged lady lady walked out of the shop next door. As she walked past she said "Nice Fat Bob". Later that same day a guy who was dressed in a leather biker jacket came up to me and said "Hey, is that a softail". It takes all sorts.
