Happened to me several times.

I just say "Yes, it's a Sportster Rider" and continue on my merry way.

Although one time after my answer the guy said "Are you sure?"
And I said "No, are you?"

He gave me a dumb look and walked away.

Go figure.

Don't get me wrong, I am not dissing Sportsters.
My last bike was a Sportster and I enjoyed it, but I personally cannot compare it to my Dyna.
They do look similar, but it ends there pretty quick.
I am 5'10 and 275 lbs - I squashed my Sporty - poor bike...

Like it was mentioned earlier, there are those who just aren't educated in Harleys, including other harley owners. Be gentle and give them an education.

Well to be fair, yes he was probably uneducated in the world of Harley models, but he may have seenalot of the ads on the websites(ie.ESPN, MSNBC)about Sportsters starting at $99 a month, and thought maybe that was one of them.

I'm sure he won't make that mistake again!

I had a guy tell me a Dyna is nothing but a sportster on steroids! I had to educate him on how much more there is!!!
So, how much more is there? Besides $3,000 extra?[sm=kissykissy.gif][sm=Awwww.gif]

I've only heard the SuperGlide standard referred to as that.
I'm so tempted to get a sporty air cleaner cover, and put a Sportster decal on the tank so it will remove all doubt

Maybe its because of the swingarm, with all the soft tails out there the uninformed think only sportys have them. I was looking at a street bob last year but got cheap and bought a sporty. Its my third one and do like it but when its paid for I think a dyna might find its way home.

For me, compared to my '93 Sportster:
1. room
2. suspension
3. stiffness in the frame - better able to handle my lard ****.
4. 6 speed - I do a LOT of highway riding

Similar if not the same nimble handling (I do not profess to be a pro and probably all bikes can handle more than I can ride).

Anyone asking what the differences are has not ridden a Dyna...IMHO
