Default RE: why do people keep asking if my bike is a sportster?

I like pulling up next to a pre-2007 twin cam and asking, "What size engine ya' got dar? An 88? Kinda' tiny ain't it?"

See, it's all relative...

Grizz hasa point... no offense. Most Dyna friends I have are shocked at the fact that my sporty smokes the tire in 1st, pulls the front wheel up in 2nd and screams away from them 3rd through 5th until 60-70 and then they can pull away from me with ease. I'd still love to have a Dyna personally even through I enjoy the sporty.

My 03 will beat myWG off the line everday and twice on sunday. Great light to light bike and short "in town" trips. As you said though, get up to speed and the Dyna HP takes over. And the ride is WAY better. If I had to pick one bike it would be the WG for sure. Still, you will never hear me ******* Sporties. Soft Tails....maybe

I understand that when you buy new bike, you want people to recognize it I guess. But at the end of the day, all that matters is the smile it puts on your face.

Like others have said here...... Ignorance!
and not paying attention.

I get nice sporty - even though I have had a superglide for over 15 yrs.
The best one was years ago with my Evo... was some guy who I could see him pointing to my bike to his gf on the back as I rode by... we pulled up next to each other and he said.. "Nice fatbob tank on that sporty"
Looked over... smiled... and said. "Think you better look a bit closer dear" and smoked his **** as I left.
*ok... so I might have had a bit of a grin on my face*

I almost know the feeling. Guard at the gate asked me when I was going to get a bike with a big engine. From my perspective my '07 Low Rider qualifies as a big bike. I answered with a 'good god, I have a 1584cc engine, you think I should squeeze in a v-8?'

What does it matter? You know its a big twin. I have an FXD. If someone thinks its a Sporty, well, at least they know its a Harley. No offense meant, none taken.

Think about all those guys on the metric Harley knock-offs? Nobody know WTF they're riding! Even themselves...

I've gotten sporty, nightster, fatboy, wideglide (that was closest). I even got lowrider from another streetbob rider but I think he was taking the ****. My next bike... a sportser- with custom emblems that say "Harley Ultra Dyna Wide Fat Boy 883 custom XL"

Just to confuse the cagers...

I started this thread and have since ridden with a group of "tricked out sportsters" if you will. While my bike looked bigger... their bikes really looked alot nicer that my mostly stock FXD. Just food for thought.
