Some people have no clue. I had a guy pull up next to me on an Ultra Classic and he asked me what size engine I had in my bike? ('04 FDX), and I said "Same as yours". Twin Cam 88.

I get the Sporty question sometimes. But the worst was some guy asked if it was a Softtail. And then proceeded to tell me he used to have a Softtail.

I felt like telling him "Yeah, it's a Softtail, cuz it has THESE BIG OL' SHOCKS HERE!"

Dumbazz.

 

I had a guy ( a riding club member according to his vest, no less) pull up to me on his sportster as I was getting ready to pull out of a parking place he wanted. As I was putting my gloves on, he asked me how I liked my fatboy. (I ride a wide glide). I just kinda looked at him in amazement, and pulled away.

 

Greg is basically right. I've encountered this over the years. My first FX was a 79 Lowrider. My general response has been: Oh those sportys have a 1200 motor this is close to a 1600 with a 6 speed to boot. That generally makes them feel the ignorance.

 

Had this happen to me the first day I took it out. Getting ready to leave the DMV and this guy rides in on a rather nice custom job. He gets to my position and says he just bought a sportster for his wife and how did I like mine. I politely informed him this one was a Dyna and I liked is very much.

I think it's a combo of people not really knowing what to look for and not looking past the speedo.

Besides, does it really matter what they think it is as long as you know?

 

Just say, "Yep" and "Thanks for Asking" and just keep smiling. The Sportster is a fine machine. Where's you pic? We might even think that. Haven't seen a "Dyna" nameplate yet.

It's not hard to tell them apart when you have a gas tank that looks like this:

tell them it is a HONDA with harley deacals and a harley engine. like said,most people just are clueless. pretend like you do not hear them even talking. you know guys,who gives a **** as long as you like your bike, really . [sm=sleeping.gif]

as least i gotta say. at least they know it is a harley.unlike the metrics which are not like this. not knocking metrics. i have had tons of those too. some of them nice scoots, really .

 

Just ask them if they want to race, they will figure out what you ride in a quick hurry.JMO.
