Default RE: why do people keep asking if my bike is a sportster?

Hey don't feel bad, I get the "hey nice street bob" all the time about my Sportster...
I find that most riders including many Harleyriders know little about half the models other than a few basic features. Even had a Dyna lowriderowner ask me about my streetbob.

Most people around here think that there are only 3 kinds of HDs. Baggers, Sportsters, and Softails.

They tend to skip the Dyna's altogher.

Because they are retarded.

They look nothing alike to me.

The tank and engine on a bike stand out pretty good.

Both are VERY different on a sportster and Dyna ...

Like I said, they're retarded.

I have to agree that the 2 bikes look a lot alike. The Dyna looks like the fat older brother. That's what first caught my attention (because I do like the basic look of the Sportster) however, being a bit bigger than some of us I think the Dyna will "fit" me better for a longer time period.

Just look at the rear wheel. Belt on the right, it's a Sportster on sight. Belt on the left side, you know it's a Superglide.

To me in a lot of ways the Super Glide is a lot like a Sporty with a much bigger engine and six speed. Handles well, looks good. Looks sportie.

Then when wifey and I go for a ride I thank God it is a Glide. All the difference in the world.

I haven't had anyone call my bike a Sportster, but they have called it a Dyna. [:'(]

The "Sportster" line has been around for 30 years so my guess is that it could be the only HD model they know by name. It's like when people wander up and ask "how many cc's?" and I explain that since it's an American bike it doesn' have cc's but that it's 88 cubic inches.

(and before somebody points it out.... yes, I know it's 1450. I'm just making a point.)

Hell, at a certain “trendy” HD dealer here in Dallas, I ride up and walk in to be greeted by a salesman who says “Hey, I like those ape hangers on your sporty”. I say, “it’s a Street Bob, just like the one youre standing next to”. He says, “oh” then walks off. : )

i was at a stop light the other day, and a couple dudes in a car pulled up next to me, ON MY RIGHT.... i could tell they were staring at the bike.... driver shouts out, "Is that the new Nightster?"

i was confused about his inquiry considering he was facing the right side of my bike- staring at it- face to face with the air cleaner that clearly states "96 cubic inches- Street Bob" ...i just shook my head and said, "No"

I just didn't think he could read
