Default 1000 Mile service

Okay after much consideration, I have decided to venture out and do my own 1000 mile service. I have several HD mechanic friends who have volunteered to help me out if I get stuck. I do have the service manual, but I don't have the owners manual (I need this, as it tell you what HD checks). Can anyone tell me what to check?

I will be keeping all reciepts and I will even take pics of the entire service, for HD warrenty purposes.

Any insight, input and help would be really appreciated.

Keeping the reciepts is always prudent but you don't have to take photographs. It's not necessary.

The 1000 mile service is basically oil and fluid changes with a few visual inspection and maybe tightening a few fasteners. Not difficult at all.

The main things that are changed in the 1000 mile service is the tranny fluid, engine oil and filter, and the primary oil. Did you buy the bike used because if you bought it new the dealer should have given you the owners manual.

It was a new purchase but the manual has been lost by a very regretful wife, who has misplaced it.[:@]

I believe the Harley site has info on what the service intervals are and what is checked on all their bikes.

I thought this was covered in the Service Manual? I only have the service manual and the parts manual so it had to be one of them and I can't imagine it was the parts manual.

It gives you all of the maintenance intervals and what the dealer checkes/replaces at each. It is in the beginning of the service manual I believe.

2006 Dyna manual is what I have.
