Default Progressive shocks 418 / 430 on SB 2010

I am interested in installing a set of new shocks on my 2010 SB. I am interested in Progressive 418 or 430 series in 11 inches or 12 inches. Does anyone have them installed here and can comment on them please? Any issues? Interested in seeing pictures too.

I have been checking out shocks too. From what I have read you will have bottoming issues with the 11.

Not that I recomend Progressive shocks, but of those two choices I would go with the 418's. ONLY because they have indexed (5 positons) rebound dampening. The biggest drawback is that the preload is indexed too. But IF you are considering buying them new, I would call Howard at Motorcycle Metal (sponsor on this forum) or check out his site and SERIOUSLY consider spending a little more on a set of Ohlins, that he custom builds to YOU and your riding style! For you, I would look at his #2 or #3 option.

I agree with Jimmy, I have the #3 Ohlins 12 inch length single adjustable damping and they transformed my Dyna to a smooth controlled ride. Howard is a great experienced enthusiast to deal with also.

If money is your main concern. The 418s with black springs are on eBay for about $300 with ship. Ricors are $630 plus ship.

But is it true that with the 11" it will bottom? So how come I read that with the Burly Slammer kit @ 10.5 inches they had no issues? Just asking. And if I do not lower the front forks also can anyone tell me if it will ride OK? ( I am still new to this stuff)

I don't have any expirience with the Burly kit. I never considered it, didn't like the idea of moving the mount point of the shock (read changing the angle of the shock in respect to the swingarm) just to lower the bike. Without doing anything to the front, the steering may feel slugish. Cheap solution is to slide the forks up in the trees.

Another customer of Howard's here! He has also developed a set of short Ohlins with optimum travel especially for customers like Nightster! Well worth phoning him.

I've got 11 inch Progressive 412s and I haven't bottomed out yet. It does ride rougher than the stock shocks though. I've got them set on the third notch I believe and I am 210 pounds. I don't believe they are the Heavy Duty shocks either (I didn't buy them new, I bought them off Tweakin)
