Default More high rpm vibration then a Sportster???

Guy's I need some more advice. Now that I have topped 600 miles on my first BT I'm starting to throttle it hard for the first time, but only on small short runs. At normal acceleration and driving speeds this new Dyna runs a bit smoother then my Sporty's did. But when I get on it hard and the rpm's get revving up so dose the vibration. feels like I'm setting right on the motor, In fact I think this Dyna at high rpm vibrates more then my rubber mount Sporty did, maybe even more then my old solid mount. I don't think I'm over revving it, but I'm not sure. I know on my Sporty's I could rev the hell out of them until the motor cut out and never had a problem. Is it possible that when it starts to vibrate bad I just need to shift up? I hope not because if that's it, then this BT is a dog compared to my Sportsters. I just don't know what to expect from a BT. The bike seems to run good and I have had no motor problems. I have a complete stage-1 with a SEST... Thanks for any advice you might have.

Hate to tell you but the sportsters are/were quicker than most stock Big Twins, four cams vs. two lighter weight, made to be quick. The big twin advantage is the pulling power (torque) especially with two up riding. Shame the salesman didn't explain the powerplant differences during the sales pitch, but then some of them don't know their azz from a hole in the ground.

So then, are you saying it is normal for a Dyne to vibrate real bad with high rpm's? I always knew my Sportys could give a BT a run for it's money. When it comes to high rpm it feels like this new Dyna is going to shake apart.

I'm new to HD cycles and my new '08 vibes are horrible throughout the rpm range. Two of my riding friends have Ultra Classics, '07 & '09 and they are apparently totally different rides than the Dyna line in that they have far less vibration, so they say. I have always wondered, why they don't make every motor counter-balanced and all frames rubber mounted? My motor is apparently non-balanced, that is why it's rough throughout the gears.

Mine runs pretty smooth up through any RPM you should be running. There is more as the rpm climbs but has way less vibration than my buddies Sporty.

Torque and power at lower RPM's can feel a bit doggy compared to higher RPM bikes but you would be surprised when you actually line them up. Its hard to explain but it just doesnt have the same feel. (to be clear I do think a 1200 Sporty is faster off the line and maybe even up to a certain speed).

I used to race 4 wheelers alot and my quad was kind of like a Big Twin in the since that it had alot of torque and made its power down lower in the RPM range. When i would ride my buddies quad which liked to be wound out it just felt alot faster. When we raced I would always out run his.

Give it some time to get used to were the bike is happy. There have been some issues with motor mounts so maybe something to look into as well.

Let your bike break in to about 3000 miles and have it retuned. Your dealer should not have tuned it with a SEST before break in because the engine dynamics will change and the motor will smooth out. But you should not be running it that hard at 600 miles IMO.

My '09 has some major vibration off and on throughout various rpm ranges that seem to change and evolve every so often...but without question, it vibrates significantly worse than the '08 Nightster I occasionally ride. There seems to be some really bad harmonics between 2500-3000k and then it smoothes out for a few hundred rpm and then gets bad again up near the top of the range...and then when you let off the throttle to engine brake the whole damn bike feels like it's going to shake itself apart.

I'd just make sure your engine mounts and trans are gtg., risers are torqued down properly etc.., and then just change the grips on the bars to bring the vibes to a manageable level (I currently have mine wrapped in Wilson sport-grip wrap for the purpose of my long ride up to NY and it works great with the added bonus of looking incredibly tacky!)

My 09 SB does pretty much the same thing as Andjh123.

I thought these big twins would be much smoother than my nightster that I had, but it feels roughly the same. There is a point between certain rpm's in each gear where it's as smooth as glass, But I'm talking 3rd gear at 40+

I took it in for the first service and asked the stealer if they would do an engine alignment to see if that helped, but they just tightened a few bolts and sent me on my way without improvement. I get most of the vibes in the pegs and seat. From what I've read on this forum, it might have something to do with the front engine mounts pulling the engine forward. I'll have to see if I can find an Indy dealer to check it out for me and do an alignment.

Thats why I'm not selling my 07 superglide,it has always been smooth and never had the fifth gear whine that others have complained about,no problems at all.I did notice an improvement in smoothness after a few thousand miles but I'm not sure if it was just normal break in or the screaming eagle slipons that I installed.

Take it back to the dealer NOW, before it "shakes apart", they can tell you if this is normal. NOBODY here knows just how bad your bike is vibrating, you need an experienced mechanic to take it for a ride.
