I got the stock harness or whatever tucked as close to the front of the electrical box as possible, it's got about an inch or a lil more from the engine, is that sufficient?
Is the actual connector that close to the engine. I ask because I had my connector installed like the PCV directions say, tucked behind the fuse box, and I got water in it from rain and washing the bike. I ended up taking it all apart drying it out and relocated it to under the seat. Its a tight fit but I eventually got everything back in. If you pull all the wires and harness up from under the seat there is a little "shelf" down there, thats where my connector sits. Since then Ive had no problem with water getting in the connector.

Dadgummit!!!! You just reminded me. I looked in the box and sure enough there was the little package of rubber plugs that I figured weren't needed for anything. Fortunately I only have to pull the seat to get to the ECM. I did use some pieces of electrical tape to cover the holes to help keep out dirt and water.
