When I switched to SYN 3 at my 1k it was loud. 5k switch to AMSOIL and piratically no noise, less clunk and works great, especially in the 110, 115 degree canyons. With SYN 3 it sounded like bare metal, much better with the gear oil in the trans.

10w 30 in the primary
20w 50 in the engine
75w 140 in the trans

here is what amsoil suggested.....sound like a winner??????
Justin,
The recommended lubricant in the engine and primary is our 20w-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil (Product Code: MCV). The recommended product for your 6-speed transmission is either our 75W-90 Severe Gear Oil (Product code: SVG) or our 75W-110 Severe Gear Oil (Product code: SVT). We recommend switching the transmission over to the Severe Gear product line as this is a thicker lubricant and should resolve any issues in the transmission. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us further.

I use canola in the engine, peanut in the primary, and olive in the tranny. The olive is thicker so the whine goes away. And my bike is half-Italian, like me.

That's correct! I run it a little different. I read it somewhere on the AMSOIL website, but that was one of the mixs and here's what I run, which was reported as the best!! Not sure how true it is but I like it.

10w 30 in the primary
20w 50 in the engine
75w 140 severe gear in the trans

you can run the lighter weight in the trans, but when it's in the 100s the 140 has a lot less clunk.

Well I quit!! I can't find the chart I read last year, but my set up still works great. I may try 75w 110. The 140 might be a little to think for the colder times of the year. But I already have a quart of the 140 still, so I'll use that again first. In my search I came across a couple interesting reads. Here's one!!

I might as well sound in also, engine 20-50 amsoil synthetic, same in primary but plan on changing to atf, 75-90 synthetic gear oil dont remember the brand. performed first oil change at 200 miles used regular castrol 20-50, then again at 1000 miles changed evrything. Noticed that the trany noise went away with gear oil, sound familair, will keep using gear oil if for nothing more than my piece of mind. they say that 20w-50 is the same visousity as 75w-90 and you can use the motor oil... well that would go the same way with you can use the gear oil wouldnt it? I am sure with all of the people here if there was a problem using gear oil, or a particular motor oil we would all know about it. The guy stocking the parts is going to sell you what he has in stock not whats best.
ok thats my 2cents
