I have no problems riding as far as I want to ride on any given day - including a Saddle Sore 1000/24 last year.
Thanks for the tip Joe. This bike is all about looks over functionality. I can see the benefits of a shield but I agree with others that it takes away from the lines of the bike. I'd definitely put something in front of me if this was my only ride but I'm going to keep it rugged since I have the Goldwing to turn to for longer rides.

I rode from La Crosse, WI to Biloxi, MS (1100 miles) in 2007 with my brother in celebration of his retirement from the US Air Force. Over 3,000 miles in all there and back. The longest 1 day ride I've ever made is from my brother's in Wichita Falls, TX back home to WI. A little over 1k miles in less than 24 hours. It was brutal and stictly due to weather warnings.

Last September rode out from Chicago to LA with two other HDforum members. took our time and zig zagged all the way. Put a little over 3000 miles all the way. Doing the reverse at the end of the month. Kicking it off with the Laughlin River run. Can't wait.

I get feeling from reading this that you're somewhat akin to a snowbird.
Don't like the windy city in winter or what?

4200-miles. 11 western states over 2-weeks. Stack up the tent & pad against the front of the sissybar, sleeping bag in front of them makes for an awesome backrest. Get 2-3 of the large-size (18"x18" ?) spider-bungees with 6 coated metal hooks...these are indispensable for lashing stuff to your bike!

Not at all PlumberTom. I do have to spend most of the winter in Chicago. I do however get away to California about one weekend a month to thaw out and ride. Makes all the folks up here jealous when it's 10 below. It was 75 today and I saw everyone out with their bikes. Today I was the Jealous one.

Sturgis '08, 1600 miles one-way, did 800 the first day. Knew I had to get past Chicago as didn't want to have to deal with rush hour traffic. Hit it around 9 pm on a Thursday night and still got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic! WTF? Took 2 1/2 days to get to Sturgis.
