ORIGINAL: but Ill try 2 try

dl03 - if that Avon is a lower profile tire than a HD approved 180 I would like to know. I want to put my Bob's a$$ on the ground. Any other low profile tire info would be appreciated.
i looked in the j.p. cat. and avon doesn't have a 180 in ur rim size. but dunlop has a sport touring tire 180/55zr-17. so 55 from 70 is a nice a$$ drop. its on page 116 if u have the new catalog.
Jay.

I've allways been a fan of Avon tyres but they don't make 17 inchers. I thought I would have to go to Metz. Since I'm not a fan of the french I was holding off. Yes $70 was probably a rip over the cost of the tire but I live 45 miles from anywhere and reliablity is an issue so I had the dealer do it. I do my own services but no longer change my own tires. In 42 years of riding I've changed more of them than most riders have had beers. LOL. oregonrider.

I'm just replacing my screamin eagle (GT502) rear , compared to the Metzelers and Avons I've run it didn't last nearly as long (9K) and didn't have as good of traction wet or dry or ride . I'm going back to a pair of AM41/AM42 Venoms

The 180 kit does not have anhy spacers in it it does have a bracket that moves the wiring under the fender over.
what do ya mean,"under the fender over." please explain. thanks
Jay.
My buddy got the kit to install himself, and the bracket moves the wiring from the center to the side. He left it off and has had no issues.

I've got a question relating to all this. The left side on my tire has about a quarter inch less clearance than the right side. Is this offset normal or have I twisted something out of kilter changing out shocks and sissy bars?

Thanks

Tom

Thanks nidan, I was hoping someone would chime in that has tried all three brands on the same bike. I'll see how these hold up. When they wear out maybe avon will be making a 17" rear, although slightly wider would be a tight sqeeze. I'll have to wait till oct. to try these in the rain when the dry season ends. oregonrider.

The french must use smaller millimeters so they can brag about how long their units are.

I haven't noticed it on the Dyna yet, but my Sporty had that much or more space on one side than the other. I asked the dealer about it (because they were a buncha morons and I thought perhaps they had done something ELSE wrong). Of course, they told me it was 'normal'.

I have the 180 kit on my bob, the brackets keep the turn signal wiring tucked away and the bolts for the signals have a smaller head for clearance, No wheel spacers required.
