I don't know if there are any differences in the Saddlemen gel, but I used a Pro-Pad gel pad to modify the seat on the my old Yamaha. It improved it a little, but if I was doing it again I think I'd try memory foam instead.
Right now I'm currently debating whether I should get my FXD seat modified or just buy an aftermarket seat.

I had one on a 2003 wideglide and thought it worked well. It did seem to retain some heat when it sat out in the sun. I ran it for several years but then the wifey want a little more (wider) seat in the rear so I switch to a mustang seat. Now that she is starteing to ride her own I have thought about switching back.

I've got the Explorer (2up) seat on my Street Bob. I'm very happy with it so far. It will seem pretty firm at first - it takes around 1000 miles to break in depending on your weight. Remember the stock seats are made to feel comfie when you FIRST sit on the bike, on the showroom floor. Don't you love marketing guys?
