Tom- To utilize this plug I would have to remove the inner primary as well as the outer, right?

I removed the inner primary. Then went to ace hardware, bought a bolt and washers and nut about the size of the hole(unsure the size anymore). Remove the shaft and sleeve, use high temp silicone and install the bolt in the inner primary hole. No leaks and the shaft is gone. Also use red loctite on the bolt to be sure it can't come loose in the future. I could not figure out any way to get a saw in there to cut the shaft.

I have an 06 but there's no reason what I did won't work on an 05. I took the shaft out, knocked out the bushing the shaft rode on and drove a freeze plug in the hole.

I put forwards on mine and I do not like the chrome cap. I'm going to do some engine mods. When I do, I'm going to get rid of the shifter rod.

Like you, I did some research and found this plug. I really don't know the insulation procedure. You could call Kirk or even call Alloy Art and see if they could send you an instruction sheet.

I think it is, alloyart.com.

Hah, with a sawzall. What a hack job.
That was the nature of the beast with those year dynas.
It's people lke him who give me job security!!
I would have either waited till you needed an inner primary bearing or something started leaking
and then took the shaft out then or just left it.

Droop- I want to make sure I have this right. You removed the outer primary and cut the shifter shaft to a length that does not quite reach the inspection cover. You did not remove the inner primary and the remaining shaft and the lever that was previously used with the mids is still in place so there is no hole in the inner primary that needs to be plugged. Am I correct?

Yes Sonny that is correct. I already had some sort of primary oil seepage. It wasn't coming from the outer cover or drain plug. Just trailing down to the drain plug on to the pavement. Since then, the leak has gotten bigger and dripping on to the kicksand down to the pavement as well. Maybe I messed up putting on the new tower gaskets while in there. I also reused what appeared to be a pretty healthy outer primary cover seal. I'm going to redo it again this week after I get some aftermarket fastners. But to reiterate I did not remove the inner primary. Wish I could give some assurance on my mechanical know how. Its very limited that's why I come here.
