Default Making saddlebags easy to remove?

Hi Everyone,

I know that I can buy the quick release saddlebag kit for my HD leather bags, but with money so tight right now I can't. I have also done several searches here with no success. I have some ideas about how I can make them easy to remove (mainly for cleaning), but before I proceed I would appreciate your thoughts and ideas on how I should do this or maybe you know of a website that shows the best way to do this.

Thanks very much for your help,

I relocated my turn signals with the Harley Kit. I then cut sheet metal , and backed my saddlebags. There were 3 holes in the fender strut, I plugged one hole with a chrome cap and then used stainless bolts about 2 1/2 " in length, nut, fender washer, drille holes through the bags, another fender washer, and then a wing nut. The bags are stable and easy to remove. I also bought 4 stainless acorn nuts to use on the ends of the bolts when I'm not using the saddlebags.

That's all I can think of too -- wing nuts/washers/longer bolts and a sturdy inside platform to the bag.

I did something similar on my sporty and now with my dyna and tight funds....guess what did it again. It works and if you find chromed spacers and stuff can look pretty sharp and still be cheap.

Good luck.
