Couple of things I haven't seen mentioned were some tools you might need to do the job.

phor changing out the brakeline you will need to have a 10mm, 11mm, and a 12mm 12 point star type box wrench for the banjo bolts. The bolts are listed as 12mm and 10mm, but I phound that an 11mm phit the 12mm better.

Another thing I phound useful if doing internal wiring is a spool of electricians wire. It's a phairly narrow guage semi rigid wire that is most useful phor pulling your wiring through the bars.

I've got a set of 14" Custom Chrome apes, that I drilled phor internal wiring, and then painted black with a can of rattle can BBQ black.
Went with the +6 black cables all around phrom Barnett.

Also, if you're changing out your clutch cable, you'll need snap ring pliers, preferably heavy duty. There's a ring inside your clutch release that you'll have to remove to get your old cable out. It can be a bitch.

Along the same lines, a tiny, mini version of the C ring holds your clutch lever onto your switch housing on the handlebars. I got it off, but, I still haven't figured out a way to get it back on properly. Maybe a micro version of your heavy duty snap ring pliers????

It's these little things that'll drive you nuts and have you running to Pep Boys 4 times a day.

Good advice Whiff! [sm=smiley20.gif]

I phorgot about those. I bought a pair with interchangeable tips phrom Autozone when I changed out my pipes. I imagine in a pinch a pair of needle nose pliers might do the trick.

Did mine today. The big one is easy, I can see it.

The little one on the clutch lever, I can barely see it,
and after the c clip circlip circleclip
SnapOn calls them retaining ring pliers
open it enough to remove, it is stretched and ruined.

Pick up the clip before you begin the job. I picked up two.

And then of course on the throttle side.
The two little ferrules are tiny. Don't let them out of your sight.

Dyna Crew ...
Seems there's always a few threads up on bar changes, cables, brake lines, etc ...
I thought it might be a good idea if we all post here with the info we have on our set-ups.
At your conveience ... post the bars you've installed and all others parts, part #'s,
and mods that were needed to get the job done.
Maybe we can all save each other some time better spent wrenching and riding.
Thanks all .... PsTaN
Good idea Piston. Hbars are probably one of the most common modifications.

What bars are you ridin on your BlueGlide??

I put the 06 WideGlide inch and a quarter bars.
Healthy. The beefy tubing fits in good with the big tube forks.
The risers are also the extra healthy WideGlide pieces.

BobApes would be an easier install, but they are puny one inch stock.
I needed to fabricate my own speedo/indicatorlights bracket,
in order to use the extra nice WG risers, had to modify these as well.

I won't be changing bars again for a long while.
Lotsta deal with on the bars well worth it though.

I already added this, regarding the two circlips to deal with on the Hbar swap:

The little one on the clutch lever, I can barely see it,
and after the c clip circlip circleclip
SnapOn calls them retaining ring pliers
open it enough to remove, it is stretched and ruined.

Pick up the clip before you begin the job. I picked up two.

And then of course on the throttle side.
The two little ferrules are tiny. Don't let them out of your sight.

I will now add this:

The throttle/return cables each have a teeny tiny little circlip that is almost invisible.
They go into the grip when you add the new cables. A brass one and a plated one.
Pick up a couple before you start, just in case. I needed one,
shoulda had it on hand ahead of time.

Pick up the tiewraps that lock into the hole in the framework under the fuel tank.
Two, they hold the throttle/return cables in place as they lead into the EFI.

I of course removed the fuel tank, and used a different technique than
I commonly see referred on this forum.
Didn't cut the crossover line and clamp off with visegrips.

The two links that whiffle posted above are definatly a good read,
although I disagree with a few points.

Coaxing will elicit more from me, it was an ordeal stretching over two days.
Can't see, hands don't work, lots to deal with.

I have the same problem, which limits what I can do on my own. Along with CSS (Can't See $hit), I also suffer from CRS (Can't Remember $hit)...

Mud .... Right now the BlueGlide has stock bucks rolled forward to get all the rise out of 'em I can. Over the winter I'm gonna look at a change to something different. Either Sweepers or High Rise Bucks I thought about just putting some taller risers on as well, but I dont think I'd like the position those put the Speedo in. Guess well see .... I'm leaning towards the High Rise Bucks.

Sweepers or the bucks, either would be a good choice.

Hundreds of choices when it comes to bars I would guess.

What is it about these two that make them more desireable
to you than the HD product??

Chubby 8.5" Baby Apes WO513 from Wild1 installed on my '05 FXDI Super Glide:

H-D Stainless steel braided clutch cable, part no. 56590-02
H-D Stainless steel braided brake line, part no. 45206-97B
H-D Stainless steel braided throttle / idle kit, part no. 56370-03A
H-D Front turn signal relocation kit (to fork), part no. 68517-94A

These cables are for a Wide Glide and fit perfectly on my Super Glide with the Baby Apes, which are 4" higher and 4" wider than the stock bars. I had to splice the wires to run inside the bars (there was only about 2" of slack on the stock harness). Will also need Transmission Fluid and front cover gasket for the tranny to change the clutch cable. Also don't forget brake fluid (DOT 5 for my '05) and Super Oil to lube the cables. Well worth the 500 bucks for all the parts and $150 to my buddy for the help. It took about 6 hours to do the job. Much more comfortable than the stock bars and look pretty sweet!
