Default Clutch inspection cover discoloration???

I just noticed what I beleive is some discoloration on my clutch inspection cover. I can only think of heat or a cleaner caused it. There is some very faint blueish-blackish streaks. Last PM all was fine. Lucille shifts fine (noisey as expected since day 1). Anybody have this????? Mako

no discoloring on mine, i would recommend the red-line shockproof oil in the trans it really quiets them down.

that cover is chromed plastic. maybe a bad chrome job. if it's new and under warranty, go see your stealer.

We're talking about a Bob here right? I'm pretty sure the clutch inspection or derby cover is aluminum and not chromed plastic. It ain't magnetic but it sure ain't plastic so it's probably aluminum like all the aftermarket ones are. I hope your clutch isn't so hot as to discolor it but if it was your oil would be cooked. Odd problem. I'd hate to spend money on a custom cover just to have it ruined but I think harsh chemicals or boot residue is a likely culprit.

IIRC, mako's bike is a Street Bob. No, it is not chrome plated plastic. Nor is the battery box strip or the tank emblems like everybody assumes for some odd reason.

The derby cover is polished aluminum. Just like the triple trees and rocker boxes. No plating or clearcoat so it is prone to discoloration and oxidation. Strong cleaners like Bleche White can also discolor the finish. It must be polished at regular intervals to keep it from looking rough. That or replace with something chrome plated, painted or clearcoated.

Yeah mako, last few times I have cleaned the scoot I have noticed
the same "very faint blueish-blackish streaks".

I picked up some of that metal polish that Jamie recommended. UPS brought it yesterday.

Went straight to the derby cover with it, and all is well now.

After I did my clutch adjustment, I hit mine with polish cleaned up fine... Chromed Plastic..?? That's funny, ever see a clutch or primary wrap up and go south? You'd have plastic shrapnel in ya butt...

Hey, how do you like the polish? Try some on your triple trees and levers.. makes them look like chrome.

I get the same blue/black stuff on my primary cover, but it's up near the front. My bike has forward controls though.... the stuff you see is residue from your blue jeans rubbing against the hot cover.
