Default How do I remove the bottom steering bearing?

Okay, to get the bottom steering bearing off the lower triple tree, does it slide all the way up the shaft? (Yes in the pic the tree is upside down. It’s the only way the bearing and shaft would show up in the pic) Do I pound a flat head screw driver between the bearing and the tree and work it up the shaft?
Or am I supposed to take the snap ring off the bottom of the shaft from under the tree and remove the shaft from the tree and pull the bearing off the other direction? (towards the tree) cause I tried that but the shaft isn't coming out!
I know this is a dumb question but like I said the shaft isn't coming out so I am thinking pound a screw driver in there and pry it up the shaft but I don't want to dork anything up.

Edit: the pic didn't post for some reason, but I am sure you get the idea without a visual anyway.

The stem is pressed in the bottom tree. It has to be pressed out.

The bearing should just slide from the bottom of the stem off the top. Prying with a screw driver could casue damage to your bottom tree, the stem, and/or the bearing.

Ya it has to be pressed out the whole stem has to come out, make sure you note where the notch in the stem is so you don't loose your fork lock. I would take it to a machine shop or auto parts store that has a press, I used a pipe just a little bigger than the stem to press the bearing back on.

The way I got mine off was by striking the bottom of the shaft with a hammer.
I left the snap ring on, set the top of the shaft on a peice of hardwood laying on the floor of the garage and hit the bottom of the shaft till the bearing dropped of.

I never heard of anyone pressing the shaft out just to get the bearing off. Yes, you can try to pry it up with a screwdriver blade or a chisel. Replace the bearing after you force it off. On older bikes and the bearing is really stuck beat the bearings off with chisel and take a cutting touch to heat the race to swell it enough to slide.

Mine slid right off. I may have had to tap it but I don't remember it being a sticking point for me.
