Default Long time Softail owner thinking about an '07 FXDWG....

Been a Softail guy for 25 years, but keep looking at the '07 FXDWG.....like the rake and the 49mm front end, plus really just looking for a change.

Any ex-Softail, now Dyna guys on here? What are the pro's and con's of the 96" 6 speed Dyna's.... especially the 2007 FXDWG.

Are the rubber mounted motors smoother than the balanced TC motor in real world riding?

Does the non-balanced motor really rev out faster than the balanced motor?

Any comments would be appreciated, good, bad or indifferent.

Thanks

you get used to the engine viration after awhile even though they r rubber mounted personely i think the balanced motors run alittle better cause theyre balanced and as far as the six speed in stock form you really need to be runnin over 60mph but on the plus side you can run all day 80 + with the motor barely breaking a sweat

My '07 FXDWG only vibrates at idle. When the RPM's climb it smooths out. I love the 6-speed; it really comes in handy on long runs. Though, I only use my 6th gear at ~70mph+... can't help ya on the Softail > Dyna pros/cons.

Hopefully he'll see this but ask HDTech74, he just went from a 05 night train to a 10 FXD. I almost went with a night train, but it wasn't comfortable to me. I never rode one, but curious to see what is said here.

My first ride was a softie. Bought a 2000 Lowrider in 2001. Never missed the softail. I still miss my dyna. The dyna platform bikes are made for some fast turns :-)

Well , if you're a tall guy , then the WG will fit you a little better . The balance/non balanced motor is really a non argument . I prefer my harley to vibrate a little at idle . The six speed is really unusable below 60mph , until you add a good 2 into one pipe . That really made it nice . The rake is the same as you train , as is the front tire . The seat height is a little higher , and you'll have more ground clearance and lean angle .

I think the A motor is smoother at speed. Love my '06 Wide; you won't have the IPB or Rotor issues (like I do) with an '07.

I have been a softy guy twice and there are no con's when owning a Dyna , it's a whole different Harley world when you own one !
