Its not the length of the fork. With the extra rake the forks are further away from the frame. Requires a longer damper.
As for quality of dampers. I've had best luck with the ohlins race damper. It has the widest range of adjustment. It can only be bought after market. The ones that are taken off the sport bikes are oem are garbage even though they look the same.
