Buddy of mine built an 04 with the FL front and hd the soft springs issue.
He did mods with extra length tubes combined with a lowering kit and got it to work.
I asked him to join in here, but he's not an HDF member yet.
Tomorrow.

Depending on where you get the parts, could come in around that figure ... maybe a little less if you shop around ....

Probably. I bought the kit from JP Cycles with all the basic parts. The $2K will include the additional parts I had to buy like; risers(Deuce risers don't work), riser clamp, new brake line, Fat Boy fender(the one in the kit is really thin and not near OEM), etc. I have cataloged all the parts and can post them if there is interest.

What is the best year models for the front forks and the rear fender to do this swap? I've got a 2002 FXD. I'm in Germany so I'll have to order most of the parts from the states(too expensive over here).

Desertwarrior check out the FL-Dyna Social Group. Click on Quick Links in the blue bar near the top of the page.
Any of the Fat Boy or Heritage years will work. Ackman put a nachell on his, but it aimed his headlight too low. So go with a Fat Boy ajustable type headlight.
Here's some 41 mm fork tube info I got from an eBay ad. I got my tubes from them.
BK-Rider

41 mm Fork Tubes
1984 & later 41mm fork tubes are all the same with the exception of total length.
FLT 1984-1996 22-7/8"
FLT 1997-later 20-1/4"
FLSTC/N/F 1986-1999 22-7/8"
FLSTC/N/F 2000-later 22-1/4"
FXWG ,FXST/C 1984-1999 24-1/2"
FXDWG,FXST/C 2000-later 24-1/4"

Our fork tubes won't work on some FLT models 2002-later use cartridge damper on the left side.

Welcome to Europe from the Netherlands, Cody!

Like you, I order my parts in the USA and have them sent to me by USPS. Even with shipping charges it is less expensive.

I noticed you're serving in Mannheim, Germany. I will add your location to the HDForums.com members in Europe map.

Not shure if Rhine Valley League Chapter members gets discount at local H-D dealers;you could ask forum member bcane98 (Rick)....

I do have some (US Military) friends over there who are member of the HOG Rhine Valley League Chapter. Joined them on a Toy Run from Kaiserslautern to Erlangen last May. You'll find the details on this trip over here:***The HDForums Mascot's European Tour***

If you're interested to carry the Mascot around Europe, please join in and reveal your tour plans in the ***The HDForums Mascot's European Tour*** thread for coordination.

Thank you for your service, enjoy your stay in Germany and ride safe.

Hope we'll meet some day!

Hey Rick ... did you finish your project of replacing nacelle with tins ...? Haven't updated your signature photo ... would definitely be interested in seeing your new look ....
