I think I see a theme going here! I went thu this same ordeal on my buddys 1200 XL. He was at his wits end with the stupid TORX bolts, they strip SO EASY! I had to dremel a slot into the top of the bolt, and then took a hammer and pounded it down and loose. Make sure you dremel the angel so you can get a nice down swing to the left to break the bolt loose. It was a majoe PAIN. I noticed the screws that came with his new Skull cover were of better quality for some reason!

If I might ask, what range of Snap on Torx bits do I need for all the fasterns on a 06 HD? I'll order a set.

Also, what's this? "18. motorcycle lift, the yellow one. Can't live without it" I need one of those too.

Thanks in advance,
malcolm

malcolm, I got my SnapOn torx on eBay for a really cheap price. Like new.

I have a set ranging from 15 to 55, don't forget the 27.

I like the gold anodized ones, I believe SnapOn lists them in the catalog as Heavy-Duty Removal.

Ebay Item number: 130011227352 9 pieces 20.49 is current bid

motorcycle lift, the yellow one, Click on my gallery pix to the left, there are a couple action shots.

edited to add:

I am replacing a lot of the pretty torx heads with the grade 9 allens, or hex heads.

I'm not all that much into pretty. I was gonna turn off the lights anyway.

I adjusted my clutch this AM, no probs with the derby tork's at all... I used my 1/2" air impact air wrench with a 3/8" to 1/2" socket adapter then set it for light operation didn't have a hint of stripping the torks at all... I didn't put them back on with it, LOL.. I used anti seize compound on them when I reinstalled them...

Just a FYI but you guys talk a lot about beer and you may not know that beer contains a substance called alcohol. No, it's not the same type you use for cuts and scrapes, but a "grain" alcohol. It can impair judgement in those who injest too much of it and I really just wanted to pass along this bit of information. No I'm not a doctor or chemist, just a concerned forum member. I bought a set of hex and torx sockets from sears when i bought my bike. The thing that pissed my off though, is that they didn't indlude a 27 torx in the set and didn't have one on the self to buy single. I actually bought the 27 from pep boys, i know it's jap crap but the only bolts i use it on is the derby cover, i don't know why harley didn't use 25 or 30 torx, it would have been better.
