Just to stir the pot.

Exactly what I was thinking!

The surface the pads contact doesn't stay polished for long guys. I assure you, it doesn't affect your stopping ability.

never had an issue with stopping, just do a break in like you do wiht any new rotor, and you will be fine... i used water to keep it wet, car-benu metal polish, and wheel ball after all is said and done (or the buffing wheel)

Perhaps that is so, but I had a Yami Warrior with a Yamaha R1 front fork/brakes/wheel assembly on it....serious braking power. Anyhow, I was in a chrome binge and asked a buddy to polish my rotors for me. Ooooh, aaahhh!, did they look sweet. Took the bike out for a ride........crap! the dang things functioned like ......"functioned" like the front brake on a Heritage Softail I rode.... i.e. ... ya better squeeze the brake lever HARD and early.
Needless to say, I took the polished rotors off after that first trial ride, steel wooled each disc long and vigorously, then bought 2 new (used) discs from my local dealer and never again have I toyed with the idea.

did you do a propper break in after they where polished?
10mph hard brake
15 hard brake
25 hard brake
30 hard brake
50 hard brake

then the first 50 miles just not beat on it... alot like you would a new tire i would guess.
i have polished countless rotors, on my own, buddies, and customers bikes... never once heard of any braking difference at all after a propper break in.

That is sooooo true. A very often overlooked added cost to doing your own work. Only effects those of us that enjoy quality adult beverages.

I am with you also, I don't see alot of polished rotors on race bikes, but hey these aren't race bikes are they so for the small amount of loss of performance that most will never notice anyways , I say if you like the look, go for it!!!!

yo do not see them on race bikes because most race bikes use floating or composite rotors, they are lighter, dispense heat better, and ultimately stop you better got them on my rocket

I know you make your living making things look better , I am not trying to advocate not polishing rotors. But I guess you put me in my place!
